Track who engages with competitor posts

Pull the people who liked, reposted, or replied to any post, tag them, and record every conversation so nobody hears from you twice. One credit a pull, reads free.

By Max Gillespie, founder of Oetzi

To track who engages with competitor posts, pull the engagers of the post itself: the people who liked, reposted, quoted, replied, or commented. Oetzi does this for one credit per post and keeps the result in a people graph, a shared record of who you have seen, how you tagged them, and whether anyone on your side has already spoken to them. Reading the graph is free.

Who engaged with this post?

Paste a post. Oetzi pulls the people who engaged with it, across likes, reposts, quotes, replies, and comments, and adds each one to the graph. One pull is one credit. If fewer than three people come back, the credit is refunded, because a pull that returns almost nothing is not worth paying for.

The post can be yours, a competitor's, or a thread in your category. A competitor's launch post is the obvious case. The people who replied are telling you in public that they care about this problem right now. The people who quoted it have opinions about it. Both are worth knowing about, and neither shows up in a keyword alert. The track competitor engagers use case walks through that exact move.

How do I keep track of people across platforms?

Tag them. A tag is one word you choose: evaluating, customer, churned, friendly, skip. Tags are how the graph stops being a list and starts being memory. Filter by tag and you have the people who were comparing tools last week, or the ones who already use you and might answer a question in public.

When you need more than a handle, resolve a person to a verified contact for one credit. A miss is free, so you only pay when the resolution actually lands. This is a lookup for someone who already engaged with you or your category in public, not a way to build a list of strangers. Oetzi never scrapes a list and never messages anyone on your behalf.

How do I make sure nobody hears from me twice?

Record the outreach. Every time you or a teammate reply to someone, thank them, or answer their question, note it against the person. The record is shared with Slack when connected and with any agent working on the workspace over the MCP server. A second founder, a contractor, or an agent drafting replies all see the same note and stop before repeating you.

This matters more than it sounds. A founder who replies to the same person on two platforms in one week reads as a spammer even when each reply was helpful. The graph's job is to make the second reply hard to send by accident.

Where should I be showing up?

Presence discovery is free. Oetzi lists the places where the people in your category are already talking and worth showing up in: the subreddits, the corners of X, the Hacker News threads, the LinkedIn conversations. A presence is a place plus a reason to be there. For each one you keep, Oetzi drafts a content plan, also free, so showing up has a shape rather than a vague intention.

Why a graph and not a spreadsheet?

A spreadsheet holds names. A graph holds relationships: this person engaged with that post, was tagged by you, was replied to on Tuesday, and resolved to a contact on Thursday. It stays current because pulls, tags, and outreach records all write to the same place. Social listening feeds it, replies in your voice read from it, and the people docs cover the full model.

Questions

How do I see who engaged with a competitor's post?

Paste the post into Oetzi and pull its engagers. You get the people who liked, reposted, quoted, replied, or commented, added to your people graph with the post they came from. The pull costs one credit and is refunded when fewer than three people come back. Reading and filtering the graph afterward is free.

What is a people graph in marketing?

A people graph is a record of the individuals who engaged with posts in your category, connected to what they did, how you tagged them, and whether anyone on your team has spoken to them. It differs from a contact list because the relationships are the point. See the glossary entry for the full definition.

Does Oetzi message the people it finds?

No. Oetzi is a marketing tool, not an outbound tool. It never sends a message to a stranger and never builds a list to contact. The people graph exists so that when you choose to reply in public or answer a question, you know who the person is and whether a teammate already did.

Is resolving a contact the same as scraping?

No. Resolution looks up one person who already engaged with a post you pulled and returns a verified contact for one credit, free on a miss. It is a single deliberate lookup for one person you have a reason to know, not a bulk export. The graph records that you did it so nobody repeats the step.
