What is a voice of customer feed?
A voice of customer feed streams what customers say to support and sales into the knowledge base, paraphrased, never quoted by name. How to run one.
By Max Gillespie, founder of Oetzi
A voice of customer feed is a live stream of what customers actually say, in support conversations, sales calls, community channels and reviews, delivered to the people who write for the company. The old version was a quarterly survey summarised on a slide. The feed version arrives the hour the conversation happens, in the customer's own words, and is searchable when a writer needs it. Its job is not to answer the tickets. It is to make the next post, page or reply sound like it was written by someone who has heard the customers this week.
Where does a voice of customer feed come from?
From the tools that already hold the conversations. Intercom and HubSpot for support and tickets, Slack for the channel where the team pastes what a customer said, a CRM for the notes on a deal. An integration layer such as Pipedream turns each of those into a trigger, and the trigger writes one item per conversation into a marketing knowledge base. Oetzi ships this as the voice of customer recipe on the Brain Sources tab.
How do you use it without quoting anyone?
Two rules. The items stay private to the workspace and never enter any shared dataset. And every writer, human or model, is told to paraphrase the pattern and never quote a person by name. Paraphrase is the useful form anyway: "three customers this week asked how to export to Sheets" is a post, one customer's message is a privacy problem. Intercom's own guidance on conversation data makes the same point about keeping personal data out of downstream tools.
What does it change in a post?
Specificity. A post about onboarding written from the feed names the exact step people get stuck on, in the words they used, which is the difference between a post that reads as marketing and one that reads as help. In Oetzi the feed grounds three things: Ask, which reads the store next to the public conversations, the "what we know" block on every drafting run, and the Trending scan, which never turns a support conversation into a topic but does let it inform the bridge.
Questions
Is it the same as social listening?
No. Social listening hears strangers in public. A voice of customer feed hears customers in private. Both belong in the knowledge base, and only the first belongs in a shared corpus.
How long should items live?
Days to weeks. A conversation from March says little about September. Oetzi expires events after thirty days and ranks them with a three-day half life, so this week's pattern always outranks last month's.
