Best social listening tools for startups in 2026

Max · founder, Oetzi

A startup buying social listening has a different problem from a brand buying it. A brand wants to measure sentiment across nine markets. You want to find the eleven people this week who are asking for something you built, before the thread goes quiet. Those are not the same product, and the price difference runs from $15 a month to $250.

I build one of the tools below and I name it when I get there. Everything else here comes from the vendors' own published pages. Where a vendor does not publish a fact, I say so rather than repeat a number from another roundup.

Cheap keyword alerts for founder and developer communities

Syften

Syften starts at $29.95 a month, with the Standard plan at $49.95, and covers a genuinely wide set of places founders actually hang out: Reddit, Hacker News, X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Indie Hackers, Slack, Discourse, Stack Overflow, YouTube, GitHub, Lobste.rs, Dev.to and podcasts. It is keyword-based alerting rather than intent scoring, and it also publishes an MCP page if you want an agent reading the matches. Best for a technical founder whose buyers argue in developer forums.

KWatch.io

KWatch has a free plan and an Essential plan at $19 a month. It adds AI sentiment to multi-channel keyword alerts, but no intent score. Best when your brand name is distinctive enough that every mention is worth a look and you refuse to pay for filtering you do not need.

Notifier.so

Notifier runs about $15 to $29 a month and pushes keyword alerts from Reddit, X, LinkedIn and YouTube into Slack or email. It is an alert pipe and does not pretend otherwise. Best as plumbing when you already know your keywords and just want them somewhere your team reads.

Scored alerts instead of every mention

SnitchFeed

SnitchFeed is $47 a month for intent-scored alerts across five platforms: Reddit, X, LinkedIn, Bluesky and Hacker News. Narrower coverage than Syften, more judgment applied per match. Best for a B2B startup that already knows which five platforms matter and wants the queue pre-sorted.

Buska

Buska is $49 a month across Reddit, X, LinkedIn and G2, with AI intent scoring and a reply workflow. The vendor describes itself as "social listening built for lead generation with an AI SDR agent", which tells you the shape of the product: it is aimed at outbound. Best if you want the found conversation to flow into a sales motion rather than a marketing one.

Brand monitoring and reporting

Brand24

Brand24 runs $199 to $249 a month for SMB brand monitoring with AI reporting. It monitors brand mentions rather than buying intent, and it has the biggest content library in the category. Best when someone needs a monthly report with charts in it, which is a real need and not a criticism.

Awario

Awario is $29 a month billed annually, $49 monthly, and prices itself on mentions per dollar. It publishes its own comparison against Brand24 and Google Alerts. Best for a startup that wants brand monitoring volume at the lowest defensible price.

Mention

Mention is media monitoring for SMBs and agencies, demo-led at the upper tiers. Comparisons cite tiers between $40 and $100 a month, and the vendor does not publish the higher plans openly. Best when press and media coverage matter as much as forums do.

Wider platform coverage, including places others skip

Devi AI

Devi AI is $19 a month plus $2 per Facebook group, and covers eleven platforms including Facebook Groups, Nextdoor, Quora, WhatsApp and Telegram alongside the usual set. Facebook Groups coverage is the real differentiator and almost nobody else has it. Best if your buyers organise in groups rather than on public timelines.

Octolens

Octolens is $159 a month for Pro billed annually and $499 for Scale, covering Reddit, X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Hacker News, TikTok, GitHub, newsletters and podcasts, with Slack alerts, AI filtering and an API. It also gives away a share of voice calculator and a Reddit posting-time tool. Best for a funded startup with a team in Slack and a developer who wants the API. At that price it should beat the cheaper options, and for that reader it does.

Oetzi, which is ours

Disclosure: mine. It is $49 a month with 100 credits included, covering X, Reddit, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Hacker News and Substack Notes. You describe the conversation in a sentence instead of writing keywords, every match gets an intent score from 0 to 100 with the reason written out, and it drafts two reply variants for your approval. It is narrower than Syften on platforms and pricier than Notifier. What it does that they do not is decide which matches deserve your afternoon.

How to pick one this week

The honest sorting question is what happens after a match lands. I wrote a longer taxonomy of this, but the short version fits here.

If your keyword is rare, buy the cheapest pipe or use a free one. Filtering you do not need is money burned. If your keyword has volume, a pipe will bury you by week three and you want scoring. If the job is a report rather than a reply, buy monitoring and negotiate. If you have a team and a budget, the tools with an API and Slack filtering will fit your workflow better than anything built for a solo founder.

Start with a free tier or a monthly plan you can cancel. Nobody in this category deserves an annual commitment from a startup that has not yet proved the channel works.

Oetzi finds the live conversations that matter to your product, tracks which AI engines recommend you, and drafts posts in your voice. One plan, credits meter the work.
