What is a posting cadence?

A posting cadence is how often you publish on each platform, decided in advance. How to pick one, how to keep it, and why consistency beats a burst of volume.

A posting cadence is how often you publish on each platform, decided in advance rather than whenever inspiration arrives. Three posts a week on LinkedIn and one long thread on X is a cadence. Posting seven times in a good week and nothing for the next three is not. The point of fixing it ahead of time is that the decision gets made once, while you have judgment, instead of every morning, while you have a deadline.

What is a good posting cadence?

The one you can hold in your worst month. That is a smaller number than anyone wants, usually two or three posts a week per platform for a founder doing this alongside the product. Frequency matters less than two other things: whether the post is worth reading, and whether you are still doing it in March. Different platforms reward different rhythms, and a cadence should be set per platform rather than as one global number. Where you comment matters as much as where you post, which is why a cadence works best when it is attached to a presence rather than to a calendar in the abstract.

How do you keep a cadence without burning out?

Separate deciding from writing. Decide the topics in a batch, from what the market said that week, then draft against the list instead of facing a blank page daily. A voice doc makes the drafting step much cheaper, since a draft that already sounds like you needs editing rather than rewriting. Keep a ratio in mind as well as a count. Reddit's self promotion guidance asks that your own links stay a small fraction of your participation, and that ratio is a good rule far beyond Reddit. Most weeks should be mostly replies, with your own posts the minority.

Questions

Does posting more often grow an audience faster?

Not reliably, and it usually costs quality. Every platform ranks on engagement per post, so a burst of weak posts can lower how many people see the good one that follows. A steady rhythm that you sustain for six months beats a month of daily posting followed by silence, because recognition comes from repetition over time.

Should video be part of the cadence?

Only if you can produce it without breaking the rest. Short video works well on several platforms and it costs more attention per post than text. Adding it to a plan that is already at the limit is how a cadence collapses. Start by replacing one text slot rather than adding a new one.

What happens when I miss a week?

Nothing dramatic. The audience forgets faster than you fear and forgives more than you expect. Restart on the next scheduled slot rather than trying to catch up with a double post, and lower the target if you have now missed three weeks in a row. A cadence you miss constantly is the wrong cadence, not a discipline problem.
